By Belize Live News Staff: Two prisoners who escaped from inside the courtroom in San Ignacio earlier today have been recaptured by police, Belize Live News has confirmed.
According to reports, the prisoners made a bold escape attempt just before lunchtime, fleeing from the courtroom by running down the stairs and heading toward the Macal River area.
Police officers stationed at the court quickly set chase, and the men were captured shortly after near the riverbank.
Both escapees are now back in police custody, and an internal review is expected to follow regarding how the escape occurred within the courtroom setting.
No injuries have been reported, and the names of the prisoners have not yet been officially released.
