By Belize Live News Staff: Belize has officially launched a national food control system assessment with support from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), becoming the fourth Caribbean nation to do so.
Held from March 24–28 in Belmopan, the launch brought together key policymakers including Mr. Servulo Baeza, CEO of the Ministry of Agriculture, and Mrs. Zoe Zetina, Managing Director of BAHA.
The initiative uses the FAO/WHO Food Control System Assessment Tool, based on international Codex guidelines, to improve food safety governance, trade, and compliance.
During the workshop, 15 focal points were trained in data collection. FAO experts will continue working with Belize over the next eight months to develop strategic recommendations and an action plan for national food safety reform.
