By Belize Live News Staff: Police responded to the Southern Regional Hospital following a report of a violent incident that resulted in the death of a 20-year-old man and injuries to his stepfather.
According to police, Belizean truck driver Jason Elroy Sharp of New Site, Pomona Village, told investigators that he had called his stepson, 20-year-old Santiago Garcia, to pick him up. Upon arrival, Sharp reportedly asked Garcia to take him to a residence known as “Soap’s yard” to purchase marijuana.
While at the location, Garcia stood near his motorcycle by the roadside and shouted for Jason. When Sharp turned around, he witnessed someone attacking his stepson. As he rushed to assist, he recognized the assailant as “Kenroy,” who he said is the brother of the man known as Soap.
Kenroy then reportedly released Garcia and turned his attention to Sharp, engaging in a physical altercation. Sharp recalled feeling a punch to his chest during the struggle.
Shortly after, Garcia took a few steps backward, called out for Jason again, and suddenly collapsed to the ground. It was at that moment that Sharp also felt a burning sensation in his back but was unsure of its cause.
Police investigations into the fatal incident are ongoing.
