By Belize Live News Staff: Former UDP leader and Collet representative Patrick Faber is suggesting that electoral fraud could have been a factor in his recent defeat, casting a shadow over one of the tightest races in the March 12 elections.
Faber, who had held the Collet seat for over two decades, was ousted by first-time PUP candidate Devin Daly in a race that came down to a margin of just 163 votes. While conceding the race publicly, Faber disclosed that he witnessed what he believes were improper election practices.
“I lost with grace,” he told reporters, “but I also saw things that need to be questioned. I made those complaints where necessary.” His comments come as part of a broader reflection on what he says was a contentious and flawed election process in his division.
He has yet to decide whether he will challenge the results legally, but his remarks suggest that a post-election petition could be on the table if more evidence surfaces. Meanwhile, there has been no official acknowledgment of wrongdoing by electoral authorities.
