By Belize Live News Staff: David “Bantam” Simpson, one of Belize’s early tourism trailblazers and founder of David’s Adventure Tours, has passed away, leaving behind a legacy deeply rooted in adventure, nature, and love for his homeland.
Simpson, a proud San Ignacio native, was instrumental in opening Barton Creek Cave to tourism and remained one of the most respected figures in Belize’s western tourism corridor. Known for his captivating storytelling, welcoming personality, and spiritual connection to nature, he left an unforgettable impression on everyone who had the privilege of joining him on a tour.
The management and team of San Ignacio Resort Hotel joined other stakeholders in expressing deep sorrow at the news of Bantam’s passing. “David was more than a tour guide. He was a pioneer and a symbol of what Belizean tourism is all about—authenticity, passion, and a deep-rooted respect for the land,” the hotel shared in a statement.
Local tour operators, hoteliers, conservation groups, and community leaders have also paid tribute to David’s contributions, emphasizing his role in not only promoting but protecting Belize’s natural wonders. His dedication to the Macal River, Barton Creek Cave, and the rich cultural heritage of San Ignacio made him a cherished part of the community and a respected leader among tourism professionals.
