Chocolate Festival back on after dispute over concert

By Belize Live News Staff: The Chocolate Festival of Belize will move forward as originally planned, despite an earlier cancellation caused by scheduling conflicts with a town-organized concert. The Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA) initially called off the event, fearing the town wouldn’t be able to accommodate two large-scale celebrations on the same weekend.

After a meeting between area representative Dr. Osmond Martinez and Mayor Carlos Galvez, an agreement was reached to allow both events to proceed during the weekend of May 16th. The festival will run for three days, with the concert scheduled for May 17th.

Dr. Martinez has assured that steps will be taken to minimize any risks the festival might have faced due to the competition, though details of these measures remain unclear. The festival’s gala event, which funds additional festival activities, was a particular point of concern.

A statement from BTIA reaffirmed the festival’s importance, describing it as an event that promotes sustainable tourism and economic growth in the region. Organizers insist that despite the competing concert, they remain committed to delivering an authentic and unforgettable experience for attendees.
