By Belize Live News Staff: Belizean politician Nancy Marin has joined a growing chorus of female leaders condemning Kaya Cattouse’s alleged body-shaming remarks directed at Tracy Panton. In a Facebook post, Marin called the comments “hurtful” and “shameful,” urging women in politics to support one another rather than tear each other down.
“It is already an incredible challenge for women in Belize to break into politics,” Marin wrote. “We face barriers in every direction – from gender biases to the constant need to prove ourselves worthy of a seat at the table.”
While acknowledging that political attacks are common, Marin emphasized that such remarks are especially harmful when they come from another woman. She expressed disappointment that a younger politician would target an experienced leader and mother like Panton.
“We must lift each other up, support one another, and ensure that women can thrive in every arena without fear of such attacks,” she added.
Marin’s statement aligns with similar condemnations from numerous female politicians, both past and present, who have criticized Kaya’s remarks as divisive and damaging to the progress of women in leadership. As the political landscape in Belize heats up ahead of upcoming elections, Marin’s call for unity and respect underscores the importance of maintaining dignity and professionalism in political discourse.
