Stella Maris School and Belize Academy for the deaf set for $800K renovation

By Belize Live News Staff: As part of its commitment to improving educational facilities, the Government of Belize has opened the bidding process for the rehabilitation of Stella Maris School and the Belize Academy for the Deaf. The $800,000 project aims to upgrade school facilities with a strong focus on enhancing security measures to better protect students.

Education Minister Francis Fonseca provided an update, explaining that the bidding process is expected to last around two months. Once completed, the construction phase will begin, bringing much-needed improvements to both campuses. The renovations will address key infrastructure issues while prioritizing student safety, particularly in light of recent events that underscored the need for stricter security protocols.

The Ministry of Education has also announced that Stella Maris School Principal Francella Cantun will retire in April. With her departure approaching, preparations are underway to select a new principal who will help guide the school through its upcoming transformation.
