By Belize Live News Staff: Authorities in San Pedro are investigating a major embezzlement case involving a former accountant accused of stealing over $516,000 from El Diamante Ltd. over a four-year period. The company’s owner filed a police report on January 21, 2025, stating that the accountant admitted to the theft after financial discrepancies were uncovered.
The alleged fraud came to light in February 2023, when a business consultant, hired to prepare reports for a bank loan application, discovered irregularities in the company’s records. A deeper investigation revealed that the accountant had been cashing company checks, paying personal bills from company funds, and manipulating payroll records.
After a confrontation with the company owner, the accountant reportedly confessed to the fraudulent activities. Authorities have since collected financial records, obtained statements, and gathered evidence to support the case. The suspect is currently detained and facing theft charges as investigations continue.
