Gusty winds and showers set to impact Belize on Friday

Sunny skies dominate, but Belize’s south may see morning showers

By Belize Live News Staff: Belize is in for a windy and relatively moist Valentine’s Day as strong easterly winds and scattered showers move across the country. The Belize Meteorological Service reports that northern and central areas will see most of the rainfall today, while showers will gradually decrease overnight, leaving only isolated activity in central and southern regions.

Winds will be gusty, reaching speeds between 10-20 knots, with stronger gusts expected in exposed coastal and offshore areas. As a result, seas will remain moderate to rough, with waves between 5-7 feet, prompting authorities to issue a Small Craft Caution. Boat operators and fishermen are advised to exercise caution, as strong winds could create hazardous conditions on open waters.

Temperatures will remain warm, with highs of 84°F (29°C) along the coast, 88°F (31°C) inland, and 76°F (24°C) in the hills. Tonight, conditions will cool slightly, with lows of 78°F (26°C) on the coast, 72°F (22°C) inland, and 65°F (18°C) in the hills.

Looking ahead to Saturday, skies will be partly cloudy to cloudy, with a chance of isolated showers, particularly in central and southern areas during the morning. However, as the day progresses, conditions are expected to improve.

For those tracking the tides, the first low tide occurred at 5:35 AM, followed by a high tide at 11:21 AM. The next low tide is expected at 5:26 PM, with a high tide later tonight at 11:23 PM. The sun rose at 6:19 AM and will set at 5:54 PM. The moon is set to rise at 7:51 PM after setting at 7:39 AM.

Forecaster Tareek Matthews advises Belizeans to prepare for a windy and slightly wet day, particularly in the north and central areas, while coastal residents and seafarers should take note of rough sea conditions.
