By Belize Live News Staff: The Office of the Prime Minister has officially announced that Prime Minister John Briceno has advised the Governor General to dissolve the National Assembly, clearing the way for Belize’s General Elections, which will be held on March 12, 2025.
Along with confirming the election date, the Governor General has been advised to issue writs for the nomination of candidates, which has been set for Monday, February 24, 2025. With this announcement, the country has now entered full election mode, and political parties will have just one month to campaign before Belizeans head to the polls.
The ruling People’s United Party (PUP) will be seeking re-election, while the United Democratic Party (UDP) and other opposition forces will aim to secure control of the next government. With the official start of the election process now underway, Belizeans can expect an intensified period of political activity, as candidates make their final push to secure votes.
