By Belize Live News Staff: Hundreds of teachers took to the streets of Belmopan today in a massive demonstration against the People’s United Party (PUP) administration. Their protest stems from the government’s continued refusal to pay salary increments owed to more than 600 teachers across the country.
Chanting for fair treatment and carrying banners demanding justice, the educators voiced their frustration over what they see as an ongoing disregard for their financial well-being. Teachers’ union representatives have called on the government to honor its commitments, emphasizing that the increments are not a favor but a right that has been delayed for too long.
Despite multiple discussions with government officials, no resolution has been reached, fueling growing discontent within the education sector. The teachers’ union has warned that further action, including possible strike measures, could be on the horizon if their demands are not met.
