By Belize Live News Staff: Authorities have acknowledged that Cotton Tree Village is one of the most dangerous areas in Belize, with a high number of violent incidents recorded in recent years. As a result, the police have assigned a dedicated MIT unit to patrol the area regularly in an effort to curb crime.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero, investigations into recent violent crimes have led authorities to search for two key suspects. However, police have not yet determined a motive for the most recent attack.
Journalist Jules Vasquez noted that Cotton Tree had one of the highest murder rates last year, making it one of the most violent villages in Belize. In response, ACP Romero confirmed that several murders occurred in the area in 2024, attributing the crime wave to drug activity and ongoing rivalries between individuals in the village.
Police have emphasized that their specialized task force remains active in the area to help prevent further violence and protect residents. Authorities are also urging community members to come forward with information that may assist in ongoing investigations.
This is a developing story, and further updates will be provided as more details emerge.
