By Belize Live News Staff: A late-night fire in the Benqueche area of Dangriga has claimed the life of an elderly woman, prompting an investigation into the cause of the blaze.
Authorities responded to reports of a house engulfed in flames around 11:00 p.m. on Monday night. Firefighters worked to control the blaze, but after the fire was extinguished, they discovered the body of an elderly female inside the remains of the home.
Police and fire officials remain on the scene as they work to determine whether the fire was accidental or suspicious. The victim’s identity has not yet been officially released.
Investigators are urging anyone with information to come forward as they continue their inquiries.
