By Belize Live News Staff: Giovanni Henry Ramirez, a 30-year-old Belizean laborer known for his critical role in the conviction of Belize’s first attorney-at-law to be imprisoned, was fatally shot in Belize City on Thursday afternoon. The shooting, which occurred on Amandala Drive, marks the country’s third murder of 2025.
Ramirez, also known as “G” or “G Money,” gained prominence as the key witness in the 2022 conviction of Oscar Selgado. Ramirez’s testimony and evidence, including claims that Selgado paid him to carry out a hit on former client Marilyn Burns, were pivotal in the attorney’s imprisonment for abetment to murder.
Witnesses to Thursday’s shooting described how a late-model Ford SUV, reportedly carrying Ramirez, came under heavy gunfire in the vicinity of St. Martin de Porres Primary School. Twelve bullet holes were observed on the driver’s side window. Police broke into the locked vehicle through the rear passenger window to secure the scene.
Ramirez’s controversial history includes his 2019 claims against Selgado and his arrest under the State of Emergency measures in 2022. He was also charged later that year with gang affiliation, pleading not guilty. Ramirez had prior convictions for handling an unlicensed firearm, handling stolen property, and wounding, according to court records.
Police are investigating Ramirez’s death, though no suspects have been named.
