Belize opens Corozal Free Zone access road, boosting economic growth

By Belize Live News Staff: Belize has inaugurated the Corozal Free Zone Access Road, a 1.6-kilometer infrastructure project designed to enhance economic opportunities and connectivity in the Corozal District and beyond. The project aligns with the Plan Belize Medium Term Development Strategy, under Pillar #6: Economic Transformation and Growth.

At the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister John Briceño highlighted the significance of the road, calling it a symbol of the government’s commitment to fostering growth and inclusivity. “This road is not just about infrastructure—it is about transformation. It symbolizes our commitment to creating opportunities that change lives, investing in infrastructure that fuels growth, and building a Belize where no one is left behind,” Briceño said.

The road’s completion was achieved through collaboration among several stakeholders. Funding included BZ$1.9 million from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration, BZ$1 million from the Government of Belize, BZ$200,000 from the Protected Areas Conservation Trust, and BZ$150,000 from the Corozal Free Zone. Construction began in January 2024 and was completed in under a year, emphasizing the efficiency and dedication of those involved.

The road is expected to improve access to the Corozal Free Zone, facilitating smoother transportation for goods and services, bolstering trade, and attracting investment to the area. The Ministry of Economic Development expressed its appreciation to all stakeholders, local residents, and media representatives who attended the event, acknowledging the importance of collaboration in driving Belize’s economic progress.
