Two tourists robbed at machete point near Anglican Cathedral

By Belize Live News Staff: Two tourists from Uruguay were robbed on Saturday evening while walking along Regent Street in Belize City, authorities reported.

The victims told police they were approached from behind by two masked men near the Anglican Cathedral and House of Culture at approximately 5:00 PM. One of the assailants, described as wearing a white T-shirt and black 3/4 pants, was armed with a machete. The second suspect wore a gray T-shirt and dark 3/4 pants.

The men stole personal belongings from the tourists, including a purse containing $30 Belize dollars, $100 U.S. dollars, a Uruguayan passport, a debit card, and identification documents, as well as a bag containing an iPhone 13 valued at $1,000 U.S. dollars, another Uruguayan passport, and a credit card. The suspects fled the scene toward Barkley Street.

Police recorded statements from the victims and canvassed the area for surveillance footage. No arrests have been made, and investigations are ongoing.
