By Belize Live News Staff: The Belize Meteorological Service has forecasted a relatively calm day to close out 2024, with a light northeasterly airflow prevailing across the country. Today will feature mostly sunny skies with a few cloudy spells and only isolated showers. However, a significant shift in weather is expected late tonight, with increased showers, isolated thunderstorms, and periods of rain anticipated to affect most areas heading into New Year’s Day.
Marine conditions remain favorable during the day, with light east-northeast winds at 5-10 knots and slight seas. Wave heights are expected to range from 1 to 3 feet, offering smooth conditions for boating and other water-based activities.
Temperatures will be warm and typical for this time of year. Coastal regions can expect highs of 84°F (29°C) and lows of 75°F (24°C), while inland areas will peak at 87°F (31°C) during the day and drop to 72°F (22°C) overnight. In the hills, cooler conditions are forecast, with daytime highs of 78°F (26°C) and nighttime lows of 66°F (17°C).
Looking ahead to New Year’s Day, skies are predicted to turn cloudy, accompanied by outbreaks of showers, rain, and isolated thunderstorms. These conditions are likely to persist throughout the day and into the night, potentially disrupting outdoor celebrations.
The tidal schedule includes a high tide at 11:05 AM, a low tide at 3:47 PM, and another high tide at 10:04 PM. Tomorrow’s low tide will occur at 5:34 AM. Sunrise this morning was at 6:22 AM, with sunset set for 5:29 PM. The moon will set tonight at 6:20 PM, following its rise at 7:08 AM.
Forecaster Catherine Cumberbatch advises residents to prepare for the incoming rainy conditions, particularly those planning outdoor events for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Coastal and inland areas alike should anticipate wetter weather as the holiday celebrations unfold.
