By Belize Live News Staff: The vibrant town of Punta Gorda became the stage for the annual National Youth Awards Ceremony on November 29, marking the conclusion of National Youth Week with a spectacular celebration of talent, innovation, and leadership. Organized by the Department of Youth Services, the event honored young Belizeans whose achievements across various fields exemplify dedication to national progress.
Special guests Sheldon Ramirez and Jahrine Avila addressed the audience with compelling speeches that highlighted the transformative potential of youth as leaders and innovators. Hon. Gilroy Usher delivered a rousing message, declaring, “Young people are the backbone of our nation’s progress. Their zeal, inventiveness, and resolve push Belize forward. It is our duty to recognize and appreciate them to create a more promising future.”
Hon. Rodwell Ferguson echoed these sentiments, urging the youth to embrace their limitless potential. “Dream big, work hard, and never forget that your effort and enthusiasm are what keep this country thriving. We can work together to create a Belize that reflects your talents and aspirations,” he said.
The awards celebrated achievements in thirteen categories, including Agriculture, Sports, Environmental Protection, Entrepreneurship, and Leadership. The winners, representing various regions and disciplines, demonstrated the diversity and richness of talent among Belize’s youth. Among the honorees were Asia Natalia Gilharry for Academic Excellence, Jasany Aaliyah Westby and Betuel Eliezer Magaña for Athletic Excellence, and Roseanne Delany Chun for Innovation through Technology. Additionally, Belmopan Methodist High School was recognized for Environmental Stewardship, while Alfonso Ruperto Alcala was honored for Leadership and Advocacy. Each awardee was commended for their dedication to community development and for being a catalyst for positive change.
The ceremony also acknowledged outstanding achievements in arts and social influence, such as Amanda Emily Pech, who received the Outstanding Young Musician Award, and David Morey, recognized as a Social Media Influencer. The evening was a celebration of resilience, as exemplified by Jesmar Ismael Muniz, who was awarded for Strength through Adversity, and Abner Adoni Uh, who was recognized with the Youth with Disability Award
