New communication equipment to boost BDF operations in remote border areas

By Belize Live News Staff: The Belize Defense Force (BDF) is set to enhance its communication capabilities, thanks to new equipment funded by the Central Bank of Belize. Brigadier General Azariel Loria, Commandant of the BDF, announced that the new gear includes satellite radios, body cameras, and tracking devices, which will be deployed to some of the country’s most remote border posts along the Belize-Guatemala border.

In a statement, Brig. Gen. Loria highlighted the importance of this upgrade for the BDF’s operations in isolated areas such as Cadenas, Machaquil Ha, Rio Blanco, and Ceibo Chico. “We’re forming a partnership with the Central Bank of Belize to equip these remote areas with essential communication tools,” he explained. “In the event of an emergency, our soldiers will be able to communicate effectively.”

The new equipment includes satellite phones and tracking devices, which will allow for real-time location tracking and quicker responses in critical situations. Loria emphasized the need for body cameras as an additional measure, noting, “We are in the era now that we need body cameras to ensure that if they meet Guatemalans, we get precise information back to camp.”

With this new gear, the BDF will be better equipped to monitor and manage border security effectively.
