By Belize Live News Staff: Harish Kishanchand, a 46-year-old store owner in Belize City, has been committed to stand trial in the Supreme Court on human trafficking charges. Kishanchand is accused of trafficking a 21-year-old Indian national, who claims he was mistreated, underfed, and held against his will by having his passport confiscated.
The preliminary inquiry into the case concluded recently, with more than two dozen witness statements and electronic evidence submitted by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Cheryl Lynn-Vidal. The case is set for the January 2025 session of the High Court, where Kishanchand will face charges brought forward by the Crown.
