Hurricane Milton weakens after leaving widespread destruction in Florida

By Belize Live News Staff: Hurricane Milton, which made landfall near Siesta Key, Florida, on Wednesday, October 9, as a powerful Category 3 storm, has now weakened to a Category 1 hurricane and is pulling away from Florida’s East Coast.

The storm caused extensive damage in Southwest Florida, with winds reaching 120 mph at landfall and prompting at least five confirmed tornadoes.

Fort Myers experienced significant damage, and 2.2 million people remain without power.

Recovery efforts are underway, with calmer weather expected through the weekend.

All tropical watches and warnings have been canceled.
