Belize teen killed by drunk driver: Accused faces manslaughter charges

By Belize Live News Staff: A 53-year-old unlicensed driver from Douglas Village, Orange Walk, has been charged following a fatal accident that claimed the life of a 19-year-old motorcyclist. Gustavo Cardenas is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol when his vehicle collided with Kristian Beaza’s motorcycle at the San Roman junction on Sunday night.

The impact threw Beaza from his bike, resulting in fatal injuries. Cardenas, now facing multiple charges including causing death by careless conduct and manslaughter by negligence, is also charged with driving without a license and failing to provide a specimen when required by authorities.

Cardenas has a history of fatal accidents, having been involved in a 2003 crash that left two men dead, including a police officer.
