By Belize Live News Staff: Amado Badillo, owner of Prestige Auto Sales, has responded to allegations made by Belizean businesswoman Tamara Minto, who reported to police that she has yet to receive BZD $35,000 from the sale of her vehicle earlier this year. In a social media post on Tuesday, Badillo acknowledged the delay in payments but attributed it to financial struggles stemming from the loss of his business overdraft earlier this year.
Badillo explained that he had lost access to his overdraft due to what he described as political victimization, which left him unable to renew his financing arrangements. This, in turn, led to outstanding payments owed to multiple clients for vehicle sales. He assured that he has been in constant communication with affected individuals, including Minto, and has made partial payments to those owed.
According to Badillo, he has secured a new financial arrangement and is in the final stages of resolving the outstanding payments. He stated that he has communicated this to all parties involved, but one individual, identified as Minto, filed a police report after deciding she could no longer wait.
“I am presently in discussions with her to try to find an amicable solution,” Badillo said, adding that he is confident the matter will soon be behind him and that all parties will receive full compensation.
Minto reported the issue to the police earlier this week, alleging that despite repeated attempts to collect the proceeds from the sale of her 2016 Nissan Rogue, Badillo has provided various excuses for the delay. A police investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time.
