By Belize Live News Staff: Residents of the Belize River Valley are breathing a sigh of relief after a productive meeting with top police officials and their area representative on Sunday. The meeting, called to address growing safety concerns, resulted in firm commitments to increase police presence and improve security measures throughout the nine villages.
Commissioner of Police Chester Williams personally assured residents that the Bermudian Landing police station would be staffed around the clock. More officers will be deployed to the area, and transportation will be upgraded to ensure quicker response times.
Area Representative Marconi Leal announced a plan to install much-needed lampposts in every village to improve visibility and deter criminals. In a unique initiative, Leal also revealed he’s working with the Kolbe Foundation to get inmates involved in community service projects like clearing overgrown vegetation along the highways and within the villages themselves.
The meeting also focused on community involvement. Commissioner Williams said a police officer will be assigned to assist the youth cadet corps, and there are plans to revitalize neighborhood watch programs to get residents more actively involved in keeping their communities safe.
Residents expressed their gratitude for the police’s ongoing efforts to reduce loitering and public drinking, proving that collaboration between law enforcement and the community can make a real difference.
With these new commitments and a renewed spirit of collaboration, the Belize River Valley is taking a stand to create a safer future for all its residents.
