By Belize Live News Staff: An armed robbery has just occurred at a store on Jose Maria Nunez Street in Punta Gorda Town. Two masked men stormed the premises this morning, assaulting the owner and making off with thousands of dollars in cash.
According to reports, the robbery took place around 7:10 am. The store owner was cleaning the refrigerators when two men, their faces hidden by a hoodie and a hat, entered the store brandishing firearms. When the owner attempted to escape, one of the robbers forcibly pulled him back inside. They then closed the burglar bars and proceeded to demand money.
In a terrifying turn of events, one of the assailants struck the owner on the head, leaving him injured. The robbers then fled the scene with an estimated $5,000 in cash.
Police were alerted to the incident around 7:30 am and immediately dispatched officers to the scene. The injured store owner received medical attention, and a crime scene investigation is underway. Detectives are currently reviewing surveillance footage and canvassing the area for witnesses.
Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation.
