By Belize Live News Staff: Belize has once again demonstrated its unwavering support for Taiwan’s bid to participate in the United Nations, reinforcing the strong diplomatic relationship between the two nations. During the recent 79th session of the UN General Assembly, Belize, alongside several other allied nations, voiced its backing for Taiwan’s inclusion in the global body.
In a statement, Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) expressed its gratitude to Belize for its vocal support. Belize, together with countries such as Paraguay, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia, and Eswatini, defended Taiwan’s right to meaningful participation in international organizations during the General Debate. The Belize government’s intervention underscored the fact that UN Resolution 2758, which recognizes the People’s Republic of China, does not address Taiwan’s exclusion from international bodies like the UN.
Belize officials emphasized that Taiwan’s contributions to global challenges, such as public health, sustainable development, and regional security, make its participation essential for the international community. They argued that the continued exclusion of Taiwan not only undermines Taiwan’s 23 million citizens but also hinders the world from benefiting from its expertise in various fields, such as technology and public health.
