Belize City mother hospitalized with severe injuries after son's attack

By Belize Live News Staff: A domestic incident unfolded late Thursday night, October 3, 2024, in Independence Village, resulting in a 30-year-old woman suffering severe burns after her common-law husband allegedly set her on fire.

Police received information around 11:40 p.m. about the incident and immediately responded. Upon arrival at the Independence Polyclinic, authorities found the victim, a Belizean domestic worker of Mill Street, Independence, being treated for multiple burn wounds across her body.

The victim told police that she and her common-law husband, a 24-year-old laborer from the same village, had a minor argument earlier that evening. During the dispute, the man allegedly led her outside, poured gasoline on her, and accidentally set her on fire. He reportedly extinguished the flames by taking her under a shower and then rushed her to the clinic for medical attention.

The victim was stabilized at the Independence Polyclinic and later transported to the Southern Regional Hospital for further treatment.

Authorities continue their investigation into the incident to determine the full circumstances behind this disturbing event.
