By Belize Live News Staff: Belize is spotlighting leaders in sustainable tourism today as it hosts the inaugural World Sustainable Travel & Hospitality Awards (WSTHA) at Oakridge Venues in Spanish Lookout. This highly anticipated event brings together global industry leaders to celebrate innovation and responsibility in tourism, recognizing individuals and organizations committed to net-positive tourism across 21 categories.
Justin Cooke, Executive Vice President of WSTHA, emphasized Belize’s significance as the event’s location, stating, “We cannot think of a more fitting destination to host the inaugural World Sustainable Travel & Hospitality Awards than Belize… fully aligned with our mission to spotlight those individuals and organizations that are leading the way in safeguarding our planet for future generations.”
The ceremony will feature unique, eco-conscious trophies made from recycled ocean plastic and powered by renewable solar energy. Glenn Mandziuk, CEO of the World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance, remarked, “These awards honor the inspiring leaders who are driving transformative change towards our vision of Net Positive Hospitality.”
Organized in partnership with the World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance, which represents over 50,000 hotels and 270 brands globally, the event’s entries were evaluated by Sustainable Business students from Nova Business School. Cooke added, “The ceremony promises to be a night to experience Belizean culture in all its splendor… where sustainability isn’t just discussed—it’s lived.”
