Contributed: Yesterday, a brief press conference took place at the Marion Jones Sports Complex to present the official jerseys for the Belizean high schools participating in the XXI CODICADER Games. The event featured remarks from Hon. Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Youth, Sports, and Transport, and Hon. Gilroy Usher, Minister of State for Youth, Sports, and Transport. The jerseys were officially presented by Ms. Iris Centeno, Director of the National Sports Council (NSC), and Mr. Julio Llinas, Director of Belize CODICADER.
The jersey presentation demonstrates Belize’s dedication through National Sports Council and the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Transport, to the upcoming XXI CODICADER Games, scheduled for October 2nd to 11th, 2024, in El Salvador. This prestigious regional sporting event will gather student athletes from Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama, fostering friendship and competition under the Central American Integration System (SICA).
In his speech, Hon. Ferguson emphasized the significance of youth development through sports, and expressed his confidence in the Belizean athletes, wishing them success on the international stage. He also highlighted how sports can promote unity, resilience, and camaraderie among young competitors from Central America.
