By Belize Live News Staff: Belize is set to experience mostly fair weather today with sunny skies and some cloudy intervals. Showers will be isolated, but a few more may develop over inland areas this afternoon or evening. Tonight, expect a few showers and isolated thunderstorms, particularly in southern and coastal regions, but these should gradually decrease as the night progresses.
Light winds from the west-southwest at 5 to 10 knots will create slight sea conditions with waves between 1 to 3 feet. Daytime temperatures will reach 91°F (33°C) along the coast, 95°F (35°C) inland, and 80°F (27°C) in the hills. Overnight, temperatures will fall to 80°F (27°C) on the coast, 74°F (23°C) inland, and 68°F (20°C) in the hills.
Hurricane Isaac remains under watch in the Atlantic. As of 3:00 AM, the storm was approximately 1,175 miles west of the Azores, moving east at 12 mph with sustained winds of 75 mph. Additionally, a developing area of low pressure (AL98) located midway between the Cabo Verde Islands and the Lesser Antilles has a high chance of becoming a tropical storm within the next 48 hours.
Closer to home, low-pressure development could occur in the western Caribbean by midweek. Although there is currently a low chance of formation within the next 48 hours, the National Meteorological Service will monitor its progress.
Looking ahead, fair weather is expected for Saturday, with isolated showers or thunderstorms in southern and coastal regions later in the evening.
