By Belize Live News Staff: A fatal motorcycle accident claimed the life of a 16-year-old boy in Unitedville on Friday night, raising concerns as the teenager did not have a driver’s license.
Miguel Maldonado was fatally injured after his motorcycle collided with a Toyota Corolla in the village. He was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero provided details of the incident: “On the night of September 20, 2024, police arrived at the scene to find a severely damaged motorcycle and car. The motorcycle was being driven by 16-year-old Miguel Maldonado, who did not survive the crash.” The driver of the Toyota, Donovan Tzib, has cooperated with authorities, and a sample for analysis was taken.
An investigation is currently underway to determine further details surrounding the crash.
Authorities have reiterated the importance of road safety and proper licensing for all drivers, as the number of accidents involving motorcycles rises.
