By Belize Live News Staff: The Department of the Environment (DOE), under the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Climate Change (MSDCC), has successfully concluded a three-day training program on environmental compliance monitoring. The training, held from September 17-19, 2024, at the DOE auditorium in Belmopan City, saw participation from over ten agencies representing various sectors.
Industry experts from the United States Environmental Protection Agency led the training, providing invaluable insights into the latest compliance procedures, tools, and monitoring techniques. Participants from agencies such as Public Health, Forest Department, NICH, and the Ministry of Natural Resources, Petroleum, and Mining engaged in hands-on activities, practical exercises, and discussions designed to strengthen their organizations’ compliance efforts.
Anthony Mai, Chief Environmental Officer, emphasized the importance of compliance, stating, “Compliance is not just a checklist; it’s a critical aspect of maintaining trust and integrity in our operations. This training was an opportunity for professionals to learn, share experiences, and collaborate on solutions to common challenges.”
The DOE remains committed to fostering a culture of compliance and will continue to implement practical strategies and skills to ensure adherence to Belize’s environmental legislation. This training marks a significant step towards enhancing environmental compliance across various sectors in Belize and underscores the collaborative efforts between the DOE and the US EPA.
