By Belize Live News Staff: In celebration of Belize’s 43rd Independence Day, U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken extended warm congratulations to Belizeans, highlighting the close partnership between Belize and the United States.
In his statement, Blinken emphasized the importance of the shared values between the two nations, such as democracy, the rule of law, and respect for human rights. “The enduring friendship between our nations is built on a foundation of democratic principles and mutual respect,” he remarked.
He further acknowledged Belize’s significant leadership role in the region, particularly in areas such as humane migration management and climate change action. Belize’s efforts as President Pro Tempore of the Regional Conference on Migration, and its involvement in the Los Angeles Declaration on Migration and Protection, were particularly praised as examples of our commitment to fostering positive change in the region.
A major milestone in Belize-U.S. relations this year has been the signing of the $125 million Millennium Challenge Corporation Belize Compact. This joint initiative aims to promote sustainable development and create long-term economic opportunities for future generations.
As Belize marks this important occasion, Secretary Blinken reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to strengthening ties and building a brighter future together. “We value our shared achievements and remain dedicated to working alongside Belize to ensure a secure and prosperous future for all,” Blinken stated.
The message concluded with heartfelt congratulations to Belizeans at home and abroad, as we celebrate another year of freedom and progress on this Independence Day.
