Government of Belize donates $320K in firefighting equipment to western communities

By Belize Live News Staff: The Government of Belize, through the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Climate Change (MSDCC), has provided over $320,000 worth of firefighting equipment to the communities of Billy White, Santa Familia, Duck Run 1 & 3, and Los Tambos. Additionally, $300,000 was invested in retrofitting Los Tambos Primary School to meet hurricane shelter standards.

These efforts are part of the “Building Climate Change Resilience and Social Integration” project, funded by the European Union and the International Organization for Migration. The project aims to enhance resilience in these fire-prone and vulnerable communities. It includes the construction of hurricane shelters, water system upgrades, and firefighting training, with final components expected by December 2024.
