By Belize Live News Staff: The National Meteorological Service has issued its forecast for today, indicating a mix of sunny spells and cloudy periods. Although much of the day is expected to remain dry, there is a chance of scattered showers or thunderstorms, especially along the coast this morning. These may spread inland by the afternoon, with southern areas potentially seeing increased rainfall and thunderstorms later tonight due to moist easterly winds.
On the seas, conditions will remain favorable for mariners. Winds will blow from the east-southeast at speeds between 5 to 15 knots, creating slight seas with waves reaching up to three feet.
Temperatures across Belize will vary throughout the day. Coastal regions can expect highs around 90°F (32°C) and lows of 84°F (29°C), while inland areas will see hotter temperatures of up to 95°F (35°C) during the day, cooling down to 75°F (24°C) at night. For those in higher elevations, it will be cooler, with temperatures ranging between 82°F (28°C) and 68°F (20°C).
The tropical weather outlook shows that Tropical Depression Gordon is currently located around 1,020 miles east of the Northern Leeward Islands, moving westward at 8 mph, with maximum sustained winds of 30 mph. Additionally, Potential Tropical Cyclone Eight is moving slowly northwest, about 85 miles south of Cape Fear, North Carolina, with winds nearing 50 mph.
Looking ahead, cloudy skies are expected to continue on Tuesday, with generally isolated showers and thunderstorms. The National Meteorological Service warns that rain and thunderstorm activity could increase, spreading across the country by Tuesday night.
