Man claims police assaulted, shot at him; officers now facing charges

BDF rifle goes missing from volunteer battalion, investigation underway

By Belize Live News Staff: Two police officers were arrested and charged on Tuesday, September 3rd, following an investigation into an alleged assault and shooting incident in Southern Belize.

The incident occurred on Friday, August 31st when a 30-year-old man was riding his bike in Trio Village around 5:30 pm. The man reported being stopped by two police officers who allegedly physically assaulted him with a firearm and fired shots toward his foot.

As a result of the investigation, 41-year-old Jose Oscar Sanchez, a Special Constable, has been charged with Aggravated Assault, Wounding, and Possession of a Firearm While Under the Influence of Drugs or Alcohol. 34-year-old Victor Sho, a Police Officer, faces charges of Aggravated Assault and Wounding.

The investigation into this incident remains ongoing.
