By Belize Live News Staff: After 72 years at its historic Racecourse Street address, Belize City’s oldest bakery, affectionately known as “Sunny and Tan,” has relocated to a brand-new space. The bakery, now called Sunny Side Bakery, carries a legacy dating back to its founder Zebedee Pitterson.
The move represents a major milestone for the cherished bakery, now under the leadership of Pitterson’s granddaughter, Christiana Pitterson. The new location, situated at the corner of Central American Boulevard and Banak Street, was constructed by Christiana’s father and serves as a lasting tribute to his legacy.
“This new location is something that my dad built and started, and we just made sure we finished it,” shared Christiana. “This building is dedicated to him, Elon Peterson.”
Currently, the bakery is focused on offering its classic favorites like donuts, cinnamon rolls, and powder buns. However, Christiana has big plans for the future, including introducing croissants and a breakfast menu.
With Christiana steering the ship, the bakery seems set to continue its cherished tradition for many years to come, delighting generations of Belizeans with its baked goods.
