BEL announces temporary power reduction for September 1st

By Belize Live News Staff: Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) has issued a notice informing customers of a planned reduction in power supply on Sunday, September 1st, 2024, from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

The temporary reduction is due to:

Planned maintenance by the Mexican power supplier, Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE)

Reduced output from local independent power producers

The unavailability of local biomass energy due to the end of the crop season

During this period, Belize’s national grid will be temporarily isolated from Mexico, relying solely on local power generation.

BEL is urging all customers to conserve energy, particularly during peak demand hours from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

The company expresses its appreciation for customers’ understanding and cooperation as they work to maintain a reliable power supply.
