American tourist fined for marijuana possession in Belize

By Belize Live News Staff: An American tourist was fined in Belize on Monday after pleading guilty to importing a small amount of marijuana into the country.

Lee Whyms, 37, from Los Angeles, California, was found in possession of 19.78 grams of marijuana upon arrival at the airport on Sunday.

Whyms appeared in court unrepresented and admitted to the charge, stating he was unaware of Belize’s cannabis laws. The magistrate imposed a fine, reducing the initial amount due to Whyms’ guilty plea and lack of prior drug convictions in Belize.
