By Belize Live News Staff: Carlos Fuller, Belize’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN, voiced his appreciation for the Baku Initiative Group’s work on Bonaire’s colonization issue at an international conference held in Baku.
Fuller highlighted the principles that guided Belize’s fight for independence, the right to self-determination and territorial integrity, and how these inform Belize’s foreign policy stance. He underscored the need to safeguard and champion the cultural, political, economic, social, and educational advancement of the people involved.
Fuller stressed the significance of developing self-governance, respecting political aspirations, and supporting the development of free political institutions tailored to the specific circumstances of each territory and its people.
The Baku conference on Bonaire, organized by the Baku Initiative Group and the Movement for Human Rights and Change on Bonaire Island, aims to assist Bonaire’s path towards self-determination. The conference is attended by representatives from Bonaire, various nations, international organizations, and activists, all working towards Bonaire’s decolonization.
