Man convicted for attempted bribery and mischief

By Belize Live News Staff: A man with a history of run-ins with the law was convicted on Monday for attempting to bribe a police officer and for committing a mischievous act. Phillip McKenzie appeared before the Chief Magistrate on Monday morning facing two criminal charges.

The mischievous act in question involved McKenzie allegedly providing a false name to a police officer. He then compounded the situation by offering another officer a $40 bribe to persuade the first officer to drop any potential charges related to the false name.

The Chief Magistrate found McKenzie guilty on both counts. Sentencing is expected to be handed down at a later date.
