Xunantunich Archaeological Reserve temporarily closed

Xunantunich Archaeological Reserve temporarily closed

By Belize Live News Staff: Visitors to Belize are advised that the Xunantunich Archaeological Reserve and its accompanying ferry service will be temporarily closed from September 23rd to October 7th, 2024. This closure is due to necessary road upgrades taking place on the George Price Highway in the nearby San Jose Succotz Village.

The Institute of Archaeology, National Institute of Culture and History (IA/NICH), responsible for managing the reserve, apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciates the public’s understanding as these important infrastructure improvements are completed.

Important Note: While Xunantunich will be closed, all other archaeological reserves in Belize remain open for visitors to enjoy.

Travelers with plans to visit Xunantunich during this period are encouraged to explore alternative destinations or reschedule their trip for a later date. The IA/NICH will provide updates if the closure period changes.
