By Belize Live News Staff: Belize’s National Meteorological Service (NMS) on Saturday inaugurated the first-ever weather station on the popular tourist island of Caye Caulker, a move expected to improve the country’s weather monitoring and forecasting capabilities.
The station, funded by an $8 million investment from the Global Environment Facility, the World Bank, and the Belize government, is equipped with advanced technology to collect precise weather data.
The NMS said the station will enable it to track weather events more accurately, providing Belizeans with more timely and reliable forecasts. Improved forecasting is crucial for both daily life and managing the impacts of climate change and extreme weather.
The inauguration marks a major step in strengthening Belize’s meteorological infrastructure and enhancing its resilience to climate challenges.
