By Belize Live News Staff: A fatal traffic accident on Otro Benque Road has claimed the life of 67-year-old Honduran laborer, Fermin Lobo. The incident occurred around 9:52 am on Saturday morning, casting a somber pall over the weekend.
According to police reports, 26-year-old Hugo Vasquez, a delivery man from Orange Walk Town, was maneuvering his red Meilun tricycle from the right side of Otro Benque Road to the left. Tragically, at the same moment, Lobo was riding his red Lifan motorcycle in the opposite direction. The motorcycle collided with the rear of the tricycle, throwing Lobo onto the pavement. He sustained injuries to his left knee.
Despite the quick response of emergency services, Lobo was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:22 am. The motorcycle sustained damage to its front fork while the tricycle received minor scrapes.
Both drivers were in possession of valid driver’s licenses at the time of the accident. A case of Manslaughter by Negligence has been opened against Vasquez as police continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.
