Raul Ramon Vasquez confirmed as UDP Candidate for Belize Rural South in upcoming General Election

By Belize Live News Staff: Raul Ramon Vasquez, a veteran figure in Belizean politics, has been confirmed as the United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate for the Belize Rural South constituency in the forthcoming general election.

Vasquez, widely recognized by his media persona Ramon Vasquez, previously ran for office in 1984 as the UDP candidate for the Pickstock constituency. Despite his popularity as a radio and television personality, he narrowly lost the election by 53 votes to Jane Usher, marking the only UDP loss in Belize City that year.

Vasquez later secured a seat on the Belize City Council in a by-election held three months after his defeat, serving until 1986 before emigrating to the United States and stepping away from electoral politics. He has remained active in the media sector, founding and operating the Belize Broadcasting Network (BBN).

His return to the political arena introduces a seasoned contender with decades of experience in both media and public service, as the nation gears up for the upcoming general elections
