By Belize Live News Staff: Joseph Budna appeared in Belmopan Magistrate’s Court this morning on charges of abetment to murder linked to a killing in the capital city three years ago.
As police escorted him from the courtroom, Budna told reporters that he fears for his life and believes the State is targeting him, suggesting he might be found dead in his prison cell.
Budna stands accused of aiding in the death of Guatemalan national Armando Coy Cacao in July 2021. The part-time journalist, known for his contentious relationship with the law, continues to assert his innocence. In a live broadcast on social media last Friday, he claimed the State is seeking revenge against him.
Locked in a police vehicle, Budna vocally denied the charges, stating they were unfounded and lacked evidence. He emphasized his stance on standing up for what he perceives as just, despite his troubled legal history.
It remains unclear if Budna has secured legal representation.
