By Belize Live News Staff: Andrew Muns, a 32-year-old resident of Cotton Tree Village in the Cayo District, was pronounced dead late Thursday evening. Muns is the second victim to succumb to injuries from a shooting incident that occurred on July 7 in Cotton Tree Village, which also claimed the life of 41-year-old Clint Castillo.
The incident unfolded when Castillo, Muns, and others were socializing in an area of Cotton Tree Village. An argument broke out, and one of the men present pulled out a firearm and fired shots towards Castillo and Muns. Castillo was fatally injured, while Muns sustained gunshot wounds to his left shoulder and the right side of his neck.
Despite efforts by medical personnel, Muns succumbed to his injuries on Thursday evening. The police are still searching for the alleged shooter but have charged Jamal Hyde with abetment to murder in connection with the incident.
Cotton Tree Village is currently under a State of Emergency, which was declared on June 24 and will remain in effect through September. The declaration aims to curb rising violence and maintain public order in the area.
Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the shooting or the whereabouts of the suspect to come forward.
