By Belize Live News Staff: Deborah Ruiz, the head of Belize’s Social Security Board (SSB), has confirmed she will not seek a renewal of her contract when it expires on August 15th. Ruiz has led the SSB since her appointment in August 2022, initially serving in an acting capacity before taking on the role permanently.
The SSB proactively advertised the CEO vacancy in May, outlining the desired qualities for a new leader to steer the organization and its crucial social security fund. Though unconfirmed, reports have surfaced suggesting Dr. Leroy Almendarez, currently at the helm of BELTRAIDE, might be a potential successor. Dr. Almendarez has not yet publicly addressed these reports.
The SSB is a cornerstone of Belize’s social safety net, providing financial support to citizens during retirement, disability, and other challenging circumstances.
The selection of a new CEO will impact the well-being of countless Belizeans who rely on the services provided by this essential institution.
