President Joe Biden announces he won't run for reelection

By Belize Live News Staff: President Joe Biden announced today that he will not seek reelection, choosing instead to dedicate the remainder of his term to his presidential duties.

In a heartfelt letter to the American people, President Biden highlighted his administration’s significant achievements. He noted the strong economy, historic investments in infrastructure, reduced prescription drug costs for seniors, expanded affordable healthcare, and essential care for veterans. Additionally, his administration appointed the first African American woman to the Supreme Court and passed significant climate legislation.

President Biden expressed deep gratitude for the support of the American people and their resilience through unprecedented challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and economic crises. “Together, we have protected and preserved our Democracy,” he stated.

Reflecting on his tenure, President Biden described serving as President as the greatest honor of his life. Despite initially intending to seek reelection, he believes that stepping down is in the best interest of his party and the country.

The President also thanked Vice President Kamala Harris for her extraordinary partnership and the American people for their trust and faith in him. He reiterated his belief in America’s potential, saying, “There is nothing America can’t do when we do it together.”

Biden is expected to address the nation later this week to provide more details about his decision. This announcement sets the stage for the upcoming presidential election without an incumbent candidate.
